Prive — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Prive app ("Prive", "the app", "we", "us") handles your information. Prive is developed and operated by Vinh Dang ("the developer"). By using the app, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Our Privacy Principle

Prive is a private photo and video vault. It is built so that your content stays on your device, encrypted, under your control. We designed the app specifically so that we never have access to your media, your PIN, or your encryption keys.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of the following:

• Your photos, videos, or any media you import or capture
• Your PIN or album passwords
• Your encryption keys
• Analytics, usage statistics, or behavioral data
• Advertising identifiers or any data used for tracking
• Your name, email, contacts, or any personal profile information

Prive contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising SDKs, and no tracking technologies of any kind.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

All of your content stays on your device, protected with AES-256 encryption performed locally before anything is written to storage. This includes:

• Media files — photos, videos, and Live Photos, encrypted at rest.
• Thumbnails — also encrypted.
• Your PIN and album passwords — stored only as cryptographic hashes in the device Keychain, never as plain text.
• Your encryption key and PIN hash — held in the Apple Keychain. So your vault works across your devices, these sync through Apple's iCloud Keychain, inside your own Apple account — never to our servers. Your 24-word Recovery Key is a paper backup of this encryption key; the app only ever displays it and never stores or transmits it.

4. iCloud Backup & Sync (Optional)

If you enable iCloud Sync, Prive uses your own iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit private database) to back up and sync your vault across your devices. In this case:

• Your media is uploaded already encrypted — it is encrypted on your device before it leaves it.
• Your encryption key syncs through iCloud Keychain, which is managed by Apple and protected by your Apple ID.
• This data lives in your personal iCloud storage. We never receive it, never have a copy, and cannot access it.
• Your use of iCloud is also subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

iCloud Sync is off by default and can be turned on or off at any time in Settings.

5. Device Permissions

Prive requests the following permissions only for the features that need them:

• Photo Library — to let you import photos and videos into your vault. The app only reads the items you choose.
• Camera — to capture photos directly into your encrypted vault, and, if you enable Break-in Alerts, to photograph someone who enters a wrong PIN.
• Face ID / Touch ID — to let you unlock your vault biometrically. Biometric data never leaves your device and is handled entirely by Apple's Secure Enclave.
• Location (While Using) — used only to attach an approximate location to a Break-in Report when Break-in Alerts are enabled. Location is never collected for any other purpose and is never sent to us.

6. Break-in Reports

If you enable Break-in Alerts (available with the standard PIN pad), the app can capture a front-camera photo and an approximate location when an incorrect PIN is entered. These reports are encrypted with your vault key and stored on your device (and in your own iCloud if sync is enabled). They are visible only to you, and you can delete them at any time in Settings.

7. Private Browser

Prive includes an optional in-app browser for downloading media. It uses a non-persistent session, meaning browsing history, cookies, and cache are kept in memory only and are discarded when you close the browser. An optional on-device content blocker filters common ads and trackers. Searches and websites you visit go directly between your device and those sites; we do not see, log, or store them.

8. Children's Privacy

Prive is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, no special action is required, but the app is intended for general audiences.

9. Data Retention & Deletion

Because your data lives on your device (and optionally in your own iCloud), you control it completely:

• Deleting an item moves it to Recently Deleted, then permanently removes it after 30 days (or immediately if you choose).
• Deleting the app removes all locally stored vault data from that device.
• To remove iCloud-synced data, delete items within the app while sync is enabled, or manage the app's data in your iCloud settings.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. If a future version of the app introduces optional features that change how data is handled (for example, optional analytics that you must explicitly turn on), we will update this policy and disclose it clearly in the app.
